Lost Lives in Depoe Bay - Remembered

This past week I attended the 62nd Annual Fleet of Flowers in Depoe Bay, OR. For the 61 years prior, this ceremony has been repeated in honor of two men who died trying to save an ailing troller that was attempting to enter the port in a storm.

Since that October day in 1936, the fishing fleet at Depoe Bay forms a procession out to the middle of the bay. Once there, they lay wreaths in commemoration of all of the men who have lost their lives to the sea, who spent their lives on the sea, and who died in defense of this country.

The Coast Guard now heads this procession of 20+ boats. Click here more information about this tradition on the Oregon Coast.
